Join us in the first annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center  in Orange County. Pura Vida Staff will participate to bring awareness to everyone to stand up and fight against breast cancer and remember those who did not win their fight against the disease. 

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, gives our Pura Vida Girls a chance to raise awareness about the disease and do whatever they can to fight breast cancer, and we are hoping to be part of a great success with our participation.

Pura Vida has been looking for opportunities to participate in events involving the community and what better way to start, than to join the inaugural 5K Walk. 
The team leaders of our PV staff will be at the Kick-Off Breakfast on August 18, 2010 to obtain more information on the event as well as obtaining the kit with fundrasing materials.

Ingredients: The Jessner Peel is an unbuffered combination of 14% salicylic acid, 14% lactic acid, and 14% resorcinol in a hydro-alcohol base.  It is considered a 7-Day Peel procedure because from day the solution is applied to the client to the end of peeling is usually between 7-10 day period.

Peel process:

While climate, skin sensitivity, and skin type can cause the peeling process to vary, the Peel Process follows a typical pattern:

In office: Once the procedure is performed, the client’s face will typically be white and frosted. This will last from 2-3 hours, and will subside

• Day 1-2: Skin will feel very dry and tight.  Will have a “sunburned” look
• Day 3-4: Peeling begins (usually around the mouth first)
• Day 5-7: Skin continues to peel and underlying skin is pink and soft.
• Day 8-9: Skin may be slightly pink. Client comes in for scheduled “Post Treatment” designed to hydrate the skin.

Please note:

• Dark-skinned clients or those with medium, olive skin, suffering from hyperpigmentation should not receive multiple coats of the Jessner Peel.
• The Jessner Peel cannot be applied to the hands, arms, or legs.
• The Jessner Peel should be applied to just one part of the body at a time (ie. just the face, decollete, or back, but not face and decollete or decollete and back.)

What are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash Extensions are the new way to extend the length and thickness of your eyelashes. They are applied on a hair-by-hair basis to your existing lashes for a natural new look.

How long do they last?

When properly applied, lashes can last up to two months or more. Touch-ups are recommended after initial full set application to replace any lashes taht might have fallen out. Properly applied lashes should last the length of the natural growth cycle of each eyelash hair.

How do you care for your new Eyelashes?

You must not rub eyes, or scratch. Also please note that any creams, eye makeup removers, cleaners containing glycol or carbonates can loosen the bond of your new set. Care must be taken to apply eye cream sparingly with avoidance of the lash line area.

Can I add mascara to my Lash Extensions?

Water soluble mascara can be worn, however please know that excessive use of mascara may shorten the life-span of your lashes. Please avoid waterproof mascara!!

Other Names for Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is also known as particle resurfacing, power peel, derma-peel or Parisian peel. It takes about 20-30 minutes and there’s no down-time for the skin to recover. That’s why it’s also sometimes called a “lunchtime peel.”

How Microdermabrasion Works:

Microdermabrasion uses a powerful device to spray microcrystals of aluminum dioxide (corundum powder) across the skin’s surface. The aluminum dioxide is a very fine, very hard, sand-like material that blasts away the uppermost layer of dead skin cells on the skin’s epidermis.

Microdermabrasion can be uncomfortable around the sensitive tissue of the mouth and nose, but should not be painful. After the treatment, the technician vacuums away the traces of the corundum powder.

Cautions on Microdermabrasion

*Apply sunscreen and stay out of the sun after your treatment. Along with the dead skin cells, you have removed some of your protection.

*Microdermabrasion is not recommended for sensitive skin or skin that easily reddens.

Chemical peels are also used to treat melasma (a skin condition characterized by irregularly shaped patches of brown skin commonly found on the face and neck), and pre-cancerous changes in the skin. Chemical peels can be performed on the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, and legs.

Benefits of a chemical peel

A chemical peel can restore a more youthful appearance to wrinkled, unevenly pigmented, sun-damaged, or blotchy skin.  However, a peel cannot reverse the aging process or completely remove deep scars.

What is a TCA peel?

• Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) can be used in many concentrations and is used to accomplish the following:

• • smooth fine surface wrinkles
  • remove superfical blemishes
  • correct pigment problems

TCA can be used on the neck or other body areas, and may require pretreatment with Retin-A or AHA creams. This procedure is preferable for darker-skinned patients.

Two or more TCA peels may be needed over several months to obtain the desired result, although mild TCA peels may be repeated more frequently.

The results of a TCA peel are usually less dramatic than and not as long-lasting as those of a phenol peel. More than one TCA peel may be needed to achieve the desired result.

TCA-peel patients are advised to avoid sun exposure for several months. The procedure also may produce some unintended color changes in the skin.
