THEOCGAZZETE blog – August, 2009
Today I’d like to post a shameless endorsement. This one’s in memory of Billy Mays, may he rest in peace. This all- smiles, “it really works!,” endorsement [cue smile sparkle] goes out to Pura Vida Day Spa in Laguna Niguel. The spa is our next-door neighbor here in 3 Flags Center and are a blast to work next to (our quirky center boasts an eclectic mix, with a wig shop flanking a South African Food Store and a Music School – needless to say all our neighbors are a blast to work next to). The other day Pura Vida had an open house and lured me into their store with the enticement of free mini taquitos and a complimentary microdermabrasion treatment. Get my face primped while feasting on Fred’s Mexican Food? Yes please.
So I tried the first treatment which was free. Saw a little difference in my problematic skin, and thought i would try a series of the treatment. They cut me a sweet deal, as great neighbors do, and 5 weeks later i can actually say that it really did work! Between the treatments, the new face wash they gave me and a newfangled face-massaging brush called a Clarisonic (think one of those power toothbrushes, but bigger and for your face), my face is smooth and clear and wonderfully presentable! Now i don’t have to fear the brutally exposing fluorescent lights at my office! Here it comes… the kicker endorsement statement….”Thank You Pura Vida!” [enthusiastic thumbs up and broad grin go here].

ps- should you want to go in and say “hi” to the ladies at Pura Vida, look for their special deals in The Gazette. Then say “hi” to Sally, Marilee, Anita, Rocio and the rest of the Pura Vida team for me!

Luxury and Pampering Await as Pura Vida Day Spa Re-Opens in Laguna Niguel
by: Nicole Melissa
7/5/2009
Pura Vida Day Spa, located on Forbes Road, held its grand re-opening last Thursday, June 25th. The event featured free makeovers, microdermbrasions, and mini-massages, along with delicious food and skincare consultations. This spa is a lovely retreat located on a quiet street where you can escape the noise of the outside world and enter a homey and elegant environment to get completely pampered and made-up.
Pura Vida is not just a skincare spa, or merely a massage parlor; they truly have it all, featuring everything from therapeutic massage to hot stone therapy to airbrush tanning, plus facials, microdermbrasions and more for your face. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable with tons of skin-care experiences that they will willingly share. They carry top-of-the line skincare products, featuring Jan Marini’s fabulous skincare line which, product specialists say, can greatly improve the quality of your skin, especially if you have sun damage, acne, or frustrating scars. I met the Jan Marini product specialist at this event, and she is truly a walking testimonial, with absolutely glowing gorgeous skin, inspiring me to want to get started on her skincare line myself.
While at the grand opening event, I gained awareness of skin treatments and the importance of good skincare, not to mention the fabulous effects they can have on our skin. As the microdermbrasion specialist at the spa said, your skin is the largest organ in your body. This being the case, we should take as good of care of it as we do with our lungs and our heart. That means if we get regular exercise and don’t care for our skin, we may want to rethink our priorities.
While at the grand re-opening, I also got an overview of an interesting product – the Clarisonic, otherwise known as the “sonicare for your face.” This waterproof automatic skin-cleaning brush was invented by the makers of Sonicare and thoroughly cleans your face in an ultra-gentle and efficient way, with the bristles gently brushing away dirt and grime in a back-and-forth motion, which skincare professionals love because it is not nearly as harsh as other similar brushes whose bristles rotate harshly around your skin. This might be a must-have for me soon, too.
All in all, this grand re-opening was very educational and informative, and, a lover of luxury myself, I am happy to know that caring for my body’s largest organ can be such an enjoyable and relaxing experience. Thanks to Pura Vida Day Spa, we can all pamper ourselves in good hands.
